Trans Youth Initiative-Uganda is an advocacy organization and action platform defending and promoting the rights of young trans* people.
Trans* people in Uganda face multiple forms of discrimination and violence. Lots of young trans* people are homeless and in desperate need of a place to stay.
With our funding, Trans Youth Initiative facilitates a temporary shelter facility for the duration of one year. The shelter specifically aims at providing safe housing for up to 10 young trans* sex workers, gender non-conforming youth, and intersex youth in the Mbarara area. Psychosocial support and career guidance are among the shelter’s services as well. Lastly, by sensitizing landlords, they hope to stop the forceful eviction of trans* people.
