LITE in Malawi is a community led initiative dealing with all issues that affect the LGBTI community, like social inequality, injustice and promotion of their human rights.
In Malawi, criminalization of same sex leads to discrimination and stigmatization of the LGBTI community. As a result, LGBTI people deny themselves access to benefits or (health) services. Also, within the community, there is little or no information available about sexual orientation, gender identity or other LGBTI issues.
The Umoyo Wathu (Our Well-Being) project will attempt to improve the position of the LGBTI community. They will do this through community dialogues, trainings, peer education and focus group discussions. It will also enable LITE to reach out to wider communities in rural areas.
