Nyasa Rainbow Alliance (NRA), located in Malawi, focuses on increasing LGBTI rights and improving the overall situation and well-being of the local community.
In Malawi, homosexuality is still criminalized and can be punishable with a prison sentence of up to fourteen years.
With PlanetRomeo Foundation funding, NRA will create the first shelter for LGBT people in Malawi. In this safe space, also physical and psychosocial support will be given. Furthermore, a series of workshops will be organized to empower the LGBT community, as well as raise awareness among media, clergy, medical institutions and law enforcement agencies.
